Inspiring magazine covers
Web Description:
It’s hard not to be attracted to this cover of Surf featuring a young boy poking his tongue out at the camera. It is, in the words of Wedge & Lever, “sophistication that does not take itself too seriously.”
Critique:
This cover shows a young boy surfing with a wild expression on his face. The format of the cover is very appealing to the eye. The main background is a soft yellow covered by a clear red colored font that stands out. The placement of each section of writing in very organized and balanced. The photo itself attracts most of the attention mainly from the exited look on the boys face and how he is paused mid wave while surfing. The photo is also black and white which helps with balance of colors to make an all around clear cover.

Magazines Part 2:
Cover Types Explanation:
The main attributes for image based covers are giving the viewer a good hook by catching their eye and giving the viewer a visual explanation not just reading it. Illustration covers main attributes are giving the viewer a certain feeling especially if its something important to the and being able to step outside the boundaries of real life. Word based covers main attributes are giving the reader information at first glance and gives the reader a hook with persuasive or factual writing. The main attributes of concept based covers are connecting with the reader on an emotional level and allowing for more creative flexible with the cover.
Relationship of words and images:
The relationship between words and images is how they compliment each other. In my opinion a cover should have a theme which lets the words give info while the image represents that info.
